Bourg saint maurice can be reached easily from Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble and Chambery airports and then via bus transfer or car hire.

 

Times for car journey's are approximately Geneva, Grenoble and Chambery - 2 hrs Lyon 3 hrs.

Bus transfers are approximately 1 - 11/2 hours extra.

To drive to Bourg Saint Maurice takes around 8 - 10 hrs from Calais depending on how many share the driving and stops. If driving alone it is advisable to take around 10 - 12 hrs (includes a couple of rest stops) also if travelling at night alone (if not staying overnight in a motel) I would suggest pulling into a petrol station and parking your car under the petrol stations window to take your nap as this gives a good level of security (although this is not usually a problem in France) .

If you are using your own car to drive down to the French Alps in winter you will require the following by law - a set of snow chains, a reflective warning triangle, a hi-visability jacket, a complete set of spare light bulbs and to have your headlight beams diverted so as not to blind drivers on the other side of the road at night. This can be done by purchasing patches or beam benders for your year and make of car from your local car supplies shop in England for a couple of pounds and just follow the instructions on the back.

 

The speed limits on the french motorways are - in dry weather conditions 110kph / 81mph and in wet weather conditions 90kph or 62mph and in built up towns and areas 30mph.
